Culture day trip

First Picture is a picture of the train station i took into london. I used the
diagonal rule to make the picture look more interesting and kept the horizon line a 3rd
of the way up the screen

After this i took a picture of the train tracks as i found it interesting and was a
great opportunity to use the diagonal line rule as well as symmetry horizontal instead
of the typical vertical simatry.

This photograph was taken when i got off the train out at london. It is not the best example of
using rules i have learned. This is because the people in this photo eye level are not in the right place.
But this is not necessary as the main focus on this picture is the station.

I look a picture of the view of a building though the top of as tree.
i found this intreating as it uses the balancing objects rule. As the main focus is
the building the the background but the tree leafs and branches add to the photo to make it
look more intreating.

I took this picture of a cathedral and released that i needed
to change the exposure of the camera to allow more
light to be captured so i can see the building more clear.
When i adjusted the exposure on my camera and took
the picture again it clearly showed a massive difference
which improved the photo as you see more detail on the
building and it brighter.

This picture has a main focus of the statue because i centre it and
it stands out from any other feature.

While walking across one of the bridges i took a picture of a Skyscraper.
I find this picture really interesting as it reaches into the clouds as well as
it keeping to the rule of thirds rule as you can see that the horizon line in a 3rd
of the way up as it focuses on the sky more.

This picture of the river shows the rule of 3rd's once again as
the moment that the ground meets the water is about a 3rd up the screen.
it also has the element of diagonal lines were the water meets the land at the
bottom of the screen.

This picture is on The Globe. It a good building to take a landscape
picture of due to it being short be wide.

Whist in the take i took quite a few pictures and i used the diagonal rule
to make the line of photos look less plane.

This picture of a painting of war could of been better as the lighting
is not the best to capture the image nicely, yet it still shows quite nice
and could give an gloomy effect to the picture.

This picture uses the diagonal rule as painting is slightly
tilted. This make the picture more interesting to look at.

In one of the rooms there was a this flag, It looks interesting as it
show it worn out and the stitching show in the picture adds depth to it.

From a balcony of the Tate i took a picture of the view.
This is a perfect time to make a landscape picture using the rule of
3rd's as you can see the sky cuts from the building a 3rd of the way down
the picture.

This picture of a sculpture is interesting as the colours used
are reflecting the background i have chosen to take the sculpture
against.

This Blocked sculpture appealed to me as a heated atmosphere,
so i changed my white balance to the sun setting to give
it more of a hot looking atmosphere.

This picture was taken in a room were only the artwork were
lights and they were also the only source of light. I really like this
picture as it captures the Light well, thank to fiddling around with the exposure
and also the diagonal rule makes it more interesting.
This picture is similar to the one above as it is the same piece of
artwork. I took it from another angel to show the lights more. This one
show more of a diagonal line patten than the over one.

There was a smaller version of the other light sculpture i took a picture
of and it doesn't seem to appeal as nicely although it gives of a more simplistic
effect.

This is a strange picture of a sculpture that i found in the gallery.
It seems to be a good picture due to it keeping it focus on the on object even though
you can see in the background the picture corner slightly blurry.

After leaving the Tate we headed off for lunch were we went
past a free street art skate park. I found this bear really interesting.
I used the camera in a vertical position as it taking a picture of a talk figure.

This is another example of diagonal line rule as well as it using
balancing objects rule in some retrospect. I think it uses this rule
due to it you eyes get drawn to the background as well as the part
close up.

Once again i took a picture using the diagonal line rule as you
see the afro cuts of diagonally. This photograph could of
been improved as it didn't used the rule of 3rd's well.
I took this picture over the lake at Big Ben. Even though
it is not in the centre of the picture you eye get drawn to it
because it stands out in the picture the most.

On the way down a path there was a man making huge bubbles.  I
found them a really interesting topic to take a picture of as you can see a rainbow
effect in the bubbles shape. This picture captured the bubble well as it is cleanly in
the photograph.

I played around with the exposure and took another picture of a
bubble. This one shows the bubble much more colourful as the rainbow effect
is seen more clearly.

This picture of a street performer demonstrates the rule of 3rd's quite nicely
as his eye level is a 3rd of the way down the screen. It also show a good example
that you should put the camera portrait when taking a picture of somebody.

This picture shows the a good uses in landscape view. as i captured
most of the building in the picture as it is wide and not very tall
in comparison.

At the end of the day i took a train back home. I used the diagonal rule
again to make the picture of a boring train have more depth.

Corporate video analysis

A Corporate video is a video the gives information about a comany, charity or product, but are not initially trying to promote the it. They can be used to getr people to know about what there video is for, or to give people who work or have the product more information about it.

A Promotional video is a video that is trying to sell there idea or product. They do this by using a lot of persuasive language and talks more about how to get involve with there idea instead of telling you information as a corporate video would.

Good Corporate video

This is a good corporate video because it has a lot of information about the actual company and tells people what it is, does and what is planed to happen in the future. It is full of movement to keep you interested into the video and a lot of repetitive effects with the logo of the company.

Bad Corporate video

This corporate video is not a very good one because it doesn't give any information about the company accept that it about trains. no one speaks though the hole video and it has background music in the background only. It  doesn't supple the viewer with much information at all.

Photograthy composition

1- Portrait and Landscape

Normal when you take landscape phototgrath you it would be of scenery or of a larger area. I think that i have made both my landscape photos to show the description of how landscape photograth are taken. Both the clouds and bushes are showing nature and could be setting a scene.

When taking a portrait photograph, it is normally used to take pictures of a person, but also used for taking pictures of tall and thin objects or buildings such as skyscrapers. In my photos i have taken pictures of people. In the portrait photo to the left it starts to look like the tree comes out of her shoulder and could make the shot have conflict if the tree or the person is the main point of it.

Rule Of Thirds

Rule of thirds is a rule were you do one of the three terms. When you take a picture of a person you keep the eye level a third of the way down screen. Other two times to use the rule of thirds is when doing scenery photographs. when focusing on the ground the horizon line should be a third of the way down the screen while if it focuses on the sky the horizon line would be a third of the way up from the bottom of the screen.

Diagonal Rule

Diagonal line rule is mainly used to make the shot look more interesting and profetional. This rule is used by making lines diagonal or when a roughly straight line is turned to be diagonal to more it more interesting. This effect can be presented by tilting the camera slightly. In the stair picture i haven shown a good example of this rule but it well show in the window picture.

Symmetry

Symmetry is when a photograph is symmetrical or very similar on a corresponding side. This rule is used in photography to make photographs look more eye catching and intriguing to look at. This has been done in the two pictures i have taken as you can see the door look practically the same even though the background behind them are different, as well as the windows having the same effect.

Balancing Elements

Balancing elements means when you get an object, normal to one side, and make it look bigger compaired to its origomal size and the main focus of the photograph. In my two demonstrations i have taken pictures of the school playground but have one with a bottle and one with a rock. This element gives the photo more activity and less boring to look at.

Continuity Editing Exercise

Q1) What scenario were you asked to work to?

i was asked to work to the scenario of a short clip that includes having someone walking though a door and having a conversation with someone else.

Q2) what were the key media language skills you were trying to demonstrate?

I learnt though this task more about camera language such as 180 degree rule which is when you keep to one side of two people having a conversation, rule of thirds where you keep the persons eye level on a third of the way down the camera, and match on action, when you follow a action in 2 or more shots. I also was demonstrated some editing skills on Imovie.

Q3) Who did you work with to plan and film?

i worked with two other classmates to film and plan our footage.

Q4) How successful was this grouping?

i think the group came out quite successful as everyone got alone so there was no shyness or arguments. We could of focused better at times when recording but we kept are focus the majority of the time. Overall it seemed that the group worked well together and would continue to do so in future work.

Q5) How did you use your creativity to develop the scenario?

We tried to keep the clip as original as we possible could. We went for a Interrogation scenario were two people are asking a mafia worker question about a shipment. In my opinion i thought this was a creative scenario. It could of be more creative as having trying something that hasn't been attempted before or something you wouldn't expect, for example putting a plot twist in it.

Q6) How useful was your storyboard? What did you change and what did you stick to?

We had many problems in are first storyboard so we had to make another one. We kept in a production stage mostly everything in it and when recording referred back to the storyboard. This was a useful pre-production task that help a lot while in production. We also added any extra shot as well because we didn't put everything we needed in the storyboard

Edit Workshop Evaluation

EVALUATION

How did you use 180 degree rule, rule of thirds & match on action?

The 180% rule is when you keep the view of the camera on one side of 2 people. I kept to this rule when doing my filming by recording the on one side of the table when recording the conversation.

The rule of thirds is when you keep the eye level of a person a third of the way down the screen or when you focus on a landscape you keep the horizon like in the top third if focus on the ground and the bottom third if focusing on the sky. i kept to this rule most of the time but it could be slightly off at times.

I successfully did match on action, this is when there is a action in two shot that at different views which change though the action. i did this with the pulling out the chair and when the door opens and closes.
What challenges did you face during production? What you you change if you were to film again?
though out the production i found that we had to do a lot of takes when it came to dialogue. i think this was because we didn't make a script and improvised on the day. This took up a lot of time to get right. The way i would fix this is by writing a script as we did the storyboard.
Another challenge we had was keeping the environment the same when we shot on another day. The shots when we did retakes look wrong because of different clothing or props were is wrong places. This could of been resolved by checking with previous footage's to match.

What challenges did you face during post-production? What you you change if you were to edit again?

The challenges i found doing in the post-production were, working with footage that was hard or practically impossible to work together with. i would sort this out by making sure i shoot each shot right and follow though the shots so there more to work with and make it look more natural.

What are the overall strengths of your work? why?

I found editing a strength of mine as i have used Imovie many times before and i quickly got the hang of the new options i haven't used before. I got on with my group well and we cooperated with decisions so there was no problems or shyness when recording the footage.

What are the overall weaknesses of your work? why?

my strongest weaknesses in my work was probably making sure the shot have everything we needed in them for when we edited, this became a big problem when it came to editing because we had to re-shoot a lot of shots and we needed the environment to look the same, which would be difficult to do.

What overall Improvements would you make to your work? why?
Overall if i did this work again i would definitely make sure i improved in my production work. This is mainly to do with not having the right or Enough footage for my editing. I would also focus on knowing a script to say if i am on camera because it took us a long time to film only a few shots.
